Is CBT for me?

What to expect in a CBT session?

CBT sessions usually take place weekly. They begin with setting an agenda for the session, which usually involves reviewing homework from the previous session, a brief check-in, focus of the session and they end by setting homework for the next week. Homework is an essential part of CBT. To ensure the best results, it is helpful to carry out the homework tasks. This can help reinforce what you learnt during the session. Depending on the stage of therapy, the focus of the session may range from psycho-education (of anxiety/depression), completing a time-line of life events, learning about the link between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, negative cycles, breaking negative cycles, coping mechanisms and relaxation techniques including breathing exercises, mindfulness and distraction techniques to name a few techniques.
